What are the Aprilaire Humidifier summer shutdown procedures?

Thursday, June 2, 2011 by Aprilaire Team
Consumer question:

I was reading through the owners manual for the summer shutdown procedures and noticed it says to replace the evaporator panel, but is it okay to not have a panel in there during the summer so long as I clean out any errant minerals and have the water supply shut off?  Any other advice would be appreciated!

Aprilaires' response:

Thank you for contacting us with regards to your model 600M Humidifier. As long as the control for this unit is in the off position, it is not necessary to have a water panel in the unit. Some homeowners do their maintenance at the end of the humidifying season, in the spring, while some do their maintenance in the fall before the unit is started up for the humidifying season. Either way is fine.
