Reset for the change water panel light?

Thursday, April 29, 2010 by Aprilaire Team
Consumer question submitted to Aprilaire:

The change water panel light has come on. I have changed the water panel. Where is the Test/Reset button to reset the unit?

Aprilaires' response:

If you have a change water panel light on your humidifier control, your unit would be the 700 or the 700A.  To reset your control, please turn your dial clockwise to the number 7 setting.  Continue to turn past 7.  There should be a slight bump that you feel on the dial.  Once you place the control in the test/reset position, the green humidifier on indicator light will start to flash after 5 seconds.  Once this happens, you may turn the control back to your normal setting.  The change water panel light will be gone.  This information is also located in your owners manual on page 11.  I have also attached an electronic version for you.  Please contact our Customer Service Department if we may be of further assistance.

This info should be on the control panel. Not easy for a regular guy like me.

this does not reset mine. I would add the heating unit should be on when you do this.

It worked the instructions are a bit confusing. On the plastic on the right side of the panel the words say Test Reset but its the same color as the plastic just turn the knob past seven until it completely stops wait about 10 seconds then put it bact to your desired setting turning it back to the left.

Thank you for the above. I also changed the water panel as instructed and tried to reset the change water panel light. I turned it toward the test/reset but was afraid to force it past this. Obviously when I added a little pressure and felt the slight bump the green light blinked and the yellow light went out. I agree better instructions would be very helpful. Kudos to the internet.

Just following the instructions above and it works. The problem is that you feel like you are going to break the control. Not a simple little "bump".

I have model 600, should the light be on for "humidifier on"? Our has never been on. Where is the test settling on the dial in order to test it? We have owned this 2 years now and we don't think its been on.

Bob, you are correct that the bump does feel like the control knob is going go break when you turn the knob the first time into test/reset. You should see the raise lettering though that says "test/reset" and you should be able to turn the arrow to test/reset without breaking the knob.

The "humidifier on" light should turn on when the control receives a call from the furnace that it is operating and the humidity level is below the requested level of humidity. Most installations you have to have the furnace running on a heat call in order for the humidistat to respond. The humidistat can be wired to turn on with the fan call from the furnace also.
The older digital control has raised lettering that you should be able to feel past the number 7 setting, but may not be able to read clearly. On the newer digital controls we painted the words "test/resest" so you can now see it.

Same problem-glad I found this site. Had turned it past 8 and thought I broke the unit.
