Should there be a trickle of water draining from the Aprilaire humidifier unit after the furnace has shut off?

Consumer question:

Should there be a trickle of water draining from the unit after the furnace has shut off? I recently opened the valve on the water supply for winter use.

Aprilaires' response:

Thank you for contacting us regarding your model 560 humidifier. There may be a trickle of water draining from the unit after the furnace has shut off due to the flow of water that continues through the water panel after the valve has been closed. The trickle should only last maybe a minute and then you should see no water draining from the unit. If you see a steady trickle or flow out of the humidifier after the furnace has shut off, there may be a problem with the valve staying open. In this case, we recommend contacting a service contractor to come to your home and to take a look at your humidifier.
