Help answer question on the installation of my Aprilaire Model 8126!

Consumer question:

I had the Aprilaire Model 8126 installed with my new furnace. The question I have is how far should the control mechanism be from the actual furnace? It is currently installed only a few inches away from the motorized damper which I feel would affect its humidty readings. Second do you have any guidance on what the cfm rate typically is coming through the 6" duct so I have a better idea of how long to set the timer for? Thanks!

Aprilaires' response:

Thank you for contacting us with regards to your Aprilaire model 8126 Ventilation Control System. The control should be at least 6" upstream from the fresh air duct connection on your return. The air flow delivery rate should have been determined by your installer. We need three things to determine that amount, duct type, duct length, and negative static pressure in the return. We will also need to know how much fresh air your home requires. This should be determined by the ASHRAE 62.2 code. Generally, a home requires fresh air equal to 30% of its total air volume every hour. Once we know how much the 8126 can deliver each hour and we know how much fresh air your home needs each hour, we can determine how much of that hour the 8126 needs to operate. We recommend that you contact your installer for their information.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.
