Ideal Summer humidity levels vary from house to house

Consumer question:

I have an Aprilaire system and I have a question regarding the
ideal % setting for Summer temperatures.
I live in Cleveland, Ohio, and our Summers are very humid. They can
reach 80-90%, and lately, our temperatures outside have been any where
from 85-96 degrees Fahrenheit.

It seems like reducing the humidity would be the best thing to do,
correct?  If so, how can I turn the system off, and is that what you
recommend doing?

Aprilaires' response:

Thank you for contacting us.  Ideal Summer humidity levels vary from house to house and application to application.  The Aprilaire Humidifier will not be operating in the summer.  In order for our units to operate, the relative indoor humidity must be below 45%, the heat must be running on your HVAC system and the outdoor temperature must be below 60 degrees if operating in the automatic mode.

To turn the humidifier off, we would recommend looking in your owner's manual under the "Annual Shutdown" section for step by step instructions.  To shut the unit down for the season, you would turn the control to the off or 0% setting and turn the water supply off at the saddle valve.
