Consumer question:

I bought a house with this Aprilaire model 5000 electronic air cleaner system installed, but the green light no longer comes on.  How do I know it is still operating?  I don't have a model with the LCD display.

Aprilaires' response:

Thank you for contacting us with regards to your model 5000 Electronic Air Cleaner. The green light is an indicator that the air cleaner is active. It's also possible that the light as simply burned out. To verify, ensure that the air cleaner cord is plugged into a live outlet, not one that requires the furnace to be turned on for power. Switch the door off, remove it from the air cleaner housing, and make sure that nothing is touching the metal on the back of the door. Turn the power switch back on and watch for the light. If it doesn't turn on, or even flicker, listen to the door. Does it make a hissing or sizzling noise? This indicates that it's generating the high-voltage needed by the air cleaner. If there is no light and no noise, the door is likely not operating. If there's no light, but there is a noise, the door light is burned out. If there is light and noise, we would need to troubleshoot the rest of the air cleaner further.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

I have a model 5000 on my central aircondition system...The blue light is on when the HVAC fan is running, bit i am not sure whether it remains on at all times..Can i run a separate power receptacle with an on-off switch which i can personally turn on after switching on the HVAC fan on my system?..
