Can I use my humidifier in the Summer with the A/C running.  Will it be effective?

Aprilaires' response:

It is more than likely that you will not see a change in your humidity levels if you were to try an use it in the summer. The reason for this is because our humidifiers are only capable of humidifying up to 45%. During the summer months it is usually about or around 50-55% humidity all day long. As a result, the unit will not operate because the humidity level will stay above the maximum level of 45%.  If you have a lower RH level than 45% in your home the humidifier will come on and increase your humidity as long as your humidifier is hooked up to hot water.  Hot water is needed because for evaporative humidifiers to work three things are needed; heat, water and air movement.

Our AC eventually dries the house down to 30% humidity in the summer. Can my Aprilaire be used in summer and, if so, how?

Thank you for contacting us with regards to your Aprilaire Humidifier. In some cases, humidifiers can operate in the summer. Based on the information provided, it’s not clear which of our humidifiers you have. Most of our humidifiers require some source of heat to operate. In the winter months, this source is usually your furnace. In the summer, the source could be the water fed to the unit. We would not recommend using a humidifier at the same time as your A/C as cold air will not absorb much more water, but running your fan, blowing room temperature air through the ducts can help. We would not recommend summertime operation for a drainless model, such as 400, 400M or 445, but for all other flow-through evaporative or our residential steam humidifier, they can provide some relief from over-dried summertime air. We would recommend that you speak to your installing contractor or other HVAC service specialist for suggestions on how to use your humidifier in your home during the summer months.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

Can I use your model 800 steam unit in the summer if I just keep the fan on (no AC running)? I live in the high desert where it is very dry in the summer

We live in Denver, and have been talking to Sears about a AprilAire 800 Steam unit for the house. We would ideally like to get 40-60% RH all year, with furnace, and with/with out A/C running. Can the 800 be set to run withe HVAC blower all year long? We have softened water, 2500 soft home, gas furnace, kenmore 3 ton a/c. Chronic sinusitis and allergies. Duct work is scrubbed annually, will be having whole house air filter installed too. Can your product meet our needs? The Sears guy does not know, he will check with the AprilAire Trainers this week. I would like to hear from you direct, please.

Thank you for your question regarding the Aprilaire Humidifier.

Running the Air Conditioning at the same time as your humidifier will pull out any moisture that the humidifier puts into the air. Therefore it is not recommended to run them at the same time. You can run the humidifier with the HVAC fan running to try to get the relative humidity higher before the Air Conditioning turns on.
Please feel free to contact us with any further questions.

We just moved into a house that has an aprilaire humidifier. We just turned on our ac and noticed that condensation is accumulating on the ac condenser. The aprilaire humidifier is constantly clicking. Should we be turning the humidifier off during the summer while running the AC
