Consumer question:

Bypass humidifiers only for heat pumps?

I have the aprilaire 600 installed on Carrier 38YDB (Puron) heat pump. It was connected to the cold water line. Should that be connected to the hot water line for optimal performance?

Aprilaires' response:

Thank you for contacting us regarding the Aprilaire humidifier product line. We are happy to assist you with questions relating to the installation options for the model 600 humidifier. The model 600 humidifier when utilized on a heat pump application does require that it be utilized with hot water for the source of water. The hot water will provide the application with another source of heat to help supplement temperature of air circulating in the duct work of the application. In general heat pump plenum temperature are approximately 90 degrees and therefore recommend supplementing that with hot water for an enhancement to the performance of the humidifier. We would be happy to further assist you with any questions relating to the operation and installation options for the humidifier. If there are any questions please contact us at your earliest convenience.

Happy Holidays!
